| QualityQuality Assurance (QA) in the NHS Diabetic Eye Screening Programme is organised nationally. It is led by the National QA Director and supported by Regional QA Managers and Regional QA Coordinators. The national programme works closely with public health colleagues, commissioners and providers on this process. Nationally developed QA standards provide important benchmarks to support continuous improvement in programmes. The national QA team organises three-yearly visits to programmes. These are led by EQA Leads and supported by Peer Reviewers. In addition, local programmes carry out internal quality assurance by regularly monitoring statistical data. Regional QA Managers, Coordinators and the national team disseminate standards, share good practice and raise issues of professional concern. They also provide support and advice to colleagues in their regions and to the National QA Director. Regional QA Teams also organise quality improvement study days and take action if any programme is felt to be operating in an unsafe manner. The National QA Team will provide advice and support if there are concerns around patient safety or screening incidents. Management of Serious IncidentsLocal screening programmes are subject to robust quality assurance processes, both internal and external, but problems and incidents can still arise and these need to be identified and managed so that any harm is minimised. Further information, guidance and resources for reporting and managing incidents within national screening programmes can be found on the UK Screening Portal website. It includes the UK National Screening Committee's guidance document on managing serious incidents in English NHS National Screening Programmes. |
